Professional Development: Learning about a new culture and making connections with educators provides an authentic learning experience for you to reflect on and bring back to your classroom. 

Terrain: LOTS of stairs and uneven walking paths

Activity Level:  Moderate to High (Due to High Temperatures. Yes, It will be HOT!) 

School Visit:  No

PD Level: Basic. Please note the magic of these trips is the time you spend with fellow educators on your trip engaged in ORGANIC PD, so you really get out of it what you put into it. That said, because this trip does not have a great deal of formal PD or school visits, it is considered a Basic Level PD, unless you register for graduate credit.

Professional Development Certificate- All Participants will receive a certificate for 20+ professional development hours. 

Graduate Credits- In addition, we have partnered with an accredited university to allow participants to earn 1 graduate credit for an additional $100 or 3 graduate credits for an additional $300.

From there, 40% of your trip cost will be due 6 months before your travel date, and the final payment will be due 3 months prior to departure. Leaders will welcome you at the airport and will get you transferred to the hotel.

Collect your bags and head to the lobby of the airport and look for the driver with your name on a sign, he will then transfer you to your hotel.

Group Activity: 4PM Rome City Walking Tour

After getting settled in the hotel, you will have a wonderful opportunity to discover the Roman monuments, ancient landmarks and architectural masterpieces of various Italian artists. Enjoy photo stops and historical explanations at Navona Square, The Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and The Spanish Steps. Stop for photos, shopping, coffee and gelato before heading back to your hotel.

Colosseum and Roman Forum Exploration

Today, explore the Colosseum and the Forum at your own pace. Discover the remnants of public buildings, temples, and the sacred dwelling of the Vestal Virgins, the heart of ancient Rome. Hear stories of political dramas and lives from over 2,000 years ago. Stroll through Palatine Hill, where Romulus founded his city, home to the elite during the Republic. Guide and entrance tickets are included; meals are not.

Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica Tour

This excursion will take you directly into the heart of the Roman Catholic Religion to the world famous Vatican Museum - where you will skip the lines and surely be amazed by the exceptional collection of artwork from every era on display. Over one thousand rooms and galleries contain thousands of amazing treasures collected by the Popes throughout the centuries. You will have time to see the major portion of the many beautiful pieces of work. Then, you'll visit the Sistine Chapel, highlighted by Michelangelo's masterpieces, the impressive frescoes, including the "Last Judgment”. Finally, you'll visit St. Peter's Basilica, the largest church in the world. Among the many fine pieces of art and mosaics on display is Michelangelo's "Pieta" and the beautifully carved Bernini Pulpit.

Optional Rome by Night Tour

Optional - Rome by night Tour 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. The adventure and excitement of this tour starts with a ride through the Roman streets, filled with colors and lit-up everywhere. You will view top sites such as the Colosseum, Capitoline Hill, Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona and the magnificent Basilica of St. Peter's just to name a few. This tour shows you how the arches of the Colosseum turn back the hands of time under the bright lights. We will have an authentic dinner in a Roman Osteria. Drivers Guides are included. Depart for Puglia - Stop in Matera

Today you will depart for Puglia, a southern region forming the heel of Italy’s “boot,” known for its whitewashed hill towns, centuries-old farmland and hundreds of kilometers of Mediterranean coastline. Capital Bari is a vibrant port and university town, while Lecce is known as “Florence of the South” for its baroque architecture. Alberobello and the Itria Valley are home to “trulli,” stone huts with distinctive conical roofs.

Stop in Matera

Stopping at the oldest city in the world, Matera! As the capital of its province, Matera features the Sassi di Matera, cave dwellings carved into canyons by the Gravina River. Once known for poverty, the area was evacuated in 1952 but transformed into a vibrant tourism destination in the 1980s. Known as la città sotterranea ("the underground city"), the Sassi and Rupestrian Churches became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993. In 2019, Matera was named a European Capital of Culture.

You will depart this morning for Polignano al Mare & Alberobello. In Polignano, explore the stunning seaside cliffs of the Adriatic, enjoy beautiful views, and watch local children dive into crystal-clear waters. Known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” this small town is the birthplace of singer Domenico Modugno. Discover its historical center with traces of Arab and Byzantine influence. Afterward, enjoy an amazing lunch at LA CANTINA before shopping and exploring a Trulli House wine bar in Alberobello, famous for its 12th-century Trulli houses. Finally, visit Masseria Brancati in Ostuni, the “White City,” and walk among ancient olive trees, including the 3000-year-old Grande Vecchio. Driver Guide included. Meals are not included.
