Pack for all kinds of weather
Ireland’s weather can change quickly—layers and waterproof gear are key, even in summer.
Embrace the slower pace
Irish culture values conversation and connection. Slow down, chat with locals, and enjoy the relaxed vibe.
Carry cash for rural spots
Many small towns or pubs may not accept cards, so having some euros on hand is smart.
Don’t rush through Dublin
Take time to enjoy Dublin’s history, live music, and unique neighborhoods—not just the tourist attractions.
Try local dishes and drinks
Don’t miss out on Irish stew, soda bread, or a pint of Guinness straight from the source.
Respect the land and heritage
Whether exploring ancient ruins or hiking the cliffs, take care to leave places as you found them and learn the stories behind them.
Here are 7 useful phrases to know when traveling to Ireland, along with how they’re commonly pronounced and used:
“What’s the craic?” (“What’s the crack?”)

Common Irish greeting—no actual crack involved!
“Grand” (Gran-d)
Means: Good, fine, or okay
Example: “How are you?” “Ah, I’m grand!”
“Cheers”
Means: Thank you / Goodbye / Cheers (when drinking)
It’s used often in casual conversation.
“Sláinte!” (Slawn-cha)
Means: Health! (Used as a toast, like “Cheers!”)
Say this when raising a glass with locals.
“Sorry, where’s the loo?”
Means: Bathroom / restroom
“Loo” is the common term for toilet.
“I’m knackered” (Nak-erd)
Means: I’m exhausted
Helpful after a long day of sightseeing!
“Deadly”
Means: Awesome / great
Example: “That music last night was deadly!”
