Travel Tips

Travel Tips image
general icon

Travel Tips

  1. Pack for all climates – Costa Rica has microclimates! Be prepared for sun, rain, and cool mountain air all in one trip.

  2. Bring bug spray & sunscreen – Mosquitoes are common, and the sun is strong, especially near the equator.

  3. Use colones or U.S. dollars – Both currencies are widely accepted, but having some colones is helpful in smaller towns.

  4. Tap water is usually safe – In most areas, especially cities and tourist zones, the water is drinkable. Still, ask just to be safe.

  5. Expect “Tico Time” – Life moves slower here. Embrace the relaxed pace and go with the flow!

  6. Learn a few Spanish phrases – While many people speak English, knowing basic Spanish goes a long way with locals.

  7. Respect the wildlife – Costa Rica is rich in biodiversity. Observe animals from a distance and never feed them.
