Experience Antarctica

Nothing prepares you for your first sight of Antarctica’s immense, frozen beauty, surrounded by towering glaciers and icebergs. The silence is striking, occasionally interrupted by local wildlife.

Whales arrive in greater numbers by December and January, coinciding with the hatching of penguin chicks. Those clumsy, fluffy chicks are a charming sight. February and March are peak whale watching months, as large amounts of krill attract whales to the area.

Travel Tips

Travel Tips image
general icon

Travel Tips

  1. Pack smart layers – Weather can shift quickly. Think moisture-wicking base layers, fleece or wool mid-layers, and a waterproof, windproof outer shell.

  2. Bring waterproof gloves & boots – You’ll likely be doing landings from small boats, so your hands and feet need to stay dry and warm.

  3. Protect your gear – Keep cameras and phones in dry bags or waterproof cases. Cold and moisture can damage electronics quickly.

  4. Sun protection is a must – The snow and ice reflect sunlight, so bring high SPF sunscreen, lip balm, and good polarized sunglasses.

  5. Motion sickness prevention – The Drake Passage can be rough. Even if you don’t usually get seasick, consider medication or patches just in case.

  6. Respect wildlife – Keep your distance from penguins, seals, and birds. Follow your guide’s instructions and don’t touch or feed animals.

  7. Embrace the unplugged experience – Wi-Fi is limited. Use the time to connect with fellow travelers, journal your experience, and soak in the once-in-a-lifetime scenery.
